In Memoriam Prof. Hrvoje Domitrovic, Editorial Board member of the Journal of Green Engineering
Marko Horvat
Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER), University of Zagreb, Croatia
Abstract: [+]
It is with great sadness in my heart that I inform you of the passing of our dear colleague, friend and mentor,Professor Hrvoje Domitrović .
To many of us you were much more than just a colleague. You were an inexhaustible source of energy and motivation, full of ideas, visions and plans for the future. When these ideas needed to be turned into specific projects or patents, you were there for us to show us how.You watched over us and made things happen, even when we could not quite comprehend how you managed to do it. Personal and professional advice you had been giving us all these years always proved to be fruitful, coming from your vast life experience you were so willing to share. For the past four years you had been fighting your illness. Many people came to us, asking how you were, saying all the best about you. That is the kind of man you were.
To me, you were a respected colleague, my mentor and a father figure. Choosing you as my mentor all those years ago changed my life in more ways than I can express. Your guidance helped me become the man I am today. You will be sorely missed, but the light that stays behind you will be cherished in our hearts forever.

Abstract: [+]
Depletion and scarcity in conventional fossil fuels urge by utilizing renewable energy source for power generation. Hybrid renewable power generation having enormous pros in satisfying power demands over standalone renewable energy power generation. In recent decades, most of the researcher in this platform proved that the hybrid renewable power generation having consistency in satisfying power demand. These research outlets contemplate by incorporating photovoltaic power generation and wind for generating power to satisfy power demand. The intention is to design an optimal system in minimize cost for generating stable power supply to assure the demand. Here, three optimization techniques utilize to predict and design an optimal hybrid system configuration by choosing appropriate units for solar photovoltaic cells, wind power generation and number of battery backup. This objective solve by incorporating Genetic Algorithm (GA), Differential Evolution (DE) and Adaptive Genetic Algorithm with Cauchy mutation (AGA-Cauchy). It is quite evident that the proposed AGA-Cauchy reveals superior results as cost effective and by satisfying power demand over other comparative techniques.

Abstract: [+]
Early in the 21st century, new companies were formed to take advantage of the absence of the large car manufacturers in the EV market, such as Tesla Motors in the U.S, Think in Norway, BYD in China and REVA in India. Globally all these new manufacturers had released one or more EV models and changed the equation of Auto Industry. Looking into Indian Scenario, still, long way to go, the paper presents the current Indian EVmarket, market players in two and four-wheeler with recent developments along with the current status of Indian road transportation. Policies and initiatives of government are discussed. A case study is presented with consumer’s perspective to understand ground reality. Tariff for EV charging is discussed. Challenges for Indian market growth, policies, and promotions required are discussed with feasible options along with global scenario.

Abstract: [+]
This paper presents the latest trends and challenges in renewable based distributed power generation, control, and islanding management in hybrid microgrid system (HMS).With evolution of distributed generation (DG), the power conversion, transmission and distribution losses have been reduced significantly in electrical system. Further, the reliability and security of the power system network have also been enhanced with reduced carbon emission to the environment. It is witnessed in recent years that the development and implementation of emerging DC grid system with the counterpart. In this paper, we have suggested and discussed the hybrid microgrid architecture with the combination of DC as well as existing AC microgrid. Further, different sources of DG are discussed and classified for HMS. The state of art for both AC and DC bus voltages in the HMS is presented. HMS has both AC and DC natured sources and load, therefore, the power electronic converters play crucial role to enhance the performance of the HMS. Thus, selection methodology and design parameters of power converter have been extensively analyzed and addressed in the paper. The comprehensive review of various islanding detection techniques are addressed as per IEEE 1547–2003 standards. Finally, the implementation challenges of islanding detection in HMS are presented and summarized in the paper.

Abstract: [+]
Forthcoming generation of industrial revolution completely changes the living standards of world population. In addition, growing phase of industrial revolution has more impact on grid system in terms of power demand and topology. Traditional power generating system adopts renewable source integration to deal with dynamic energy demand. Coalescing of green energy sources and industrial revolution hinders Power Quality of overall system. Industrial non linear loads and uncertain source of renewable energy units are the major causes of PQ degradation. To enhance PQ in renewable source interfaced grid system, ANFIS based ICC controller is proposed for shunt connected active filter. Photovoltaic Unit is optimally interfaced to grid for aiding PQ enhancing process. ICC based APF performance is investigated in MATLAB/SIMULINK platform. Proposed controller performance is analyzed for balance and unbalance load conditions.
